Diet:  We highly recommend once you chose a high grade dog food to stick with that same brand throughout your puppy's life.

We buy Royal Canin dry puppy food then progress to  Premium Edge dry dog food (Diamond) and Merrick canned food forfeeding during the early puppy stages.  We will have your puppy transistioned over to it's main diet of dry food when you take your little one home.  Although many argue about whether to feed our dogs "table scraps" we do introduce them to a diet of eggs, meats, cheese, and vegetables mixed in so they are accustomed to this if you desire.

We highly recommend puppy formula PetAg Esbilac Powder Puppy Milk Replacer for special cases and needs. Provides extra vitamins & calcium.

If we have any special needs puppies - that will be announced prior to chosing your puppy. We will provide you all knowledge before purchase.

NW Pocket Beagles nutrition of choice along with occasional healthy table scraps: Royal Canin dry puppy food, Premium Edge or Diamond brand dry food for older puppy and adult life. Royal Canin and Merrick canned food - or organic brands dry & canned of choice.

Entertainment:  Your puppy needs things to do!  Although we know you will love and play with it, as well as hopefully take him or her on walks and places for socialization, your puppy needs things to do!  If you don't provide entertainment in the method of "safe toys" such as; teething toys, tug-of-war items, little balls to chase, stuffed animals made safe for puppies,  anything that has a squeeker or bell, they will surely find something to do.  By providing your puppy with safe alternatives to chew and play with you are helping him or her make the right choices by not chewing on your slippers, shoes, furniture or anything else that catches their interest.

If you are local, check out a wonderful, local pet shop that has both the brand of dog food we feed our little ones as well as a great range of toys and pet supplies.

To kennel or not to kennel?  That is the question.  In order for you to have a successful relationship between you and your puppy you need to help him or her succeed within your home.  I strongly suggest you having a safe kennel for your puppy for those times you are gone for extended periods of time, at work, running errands, etc.  It's not a "punishment" as some view putting your dog in a kennel, it's a "safe" place for your puppy to be while unsupervised specifically while during puppy and adolescent stages.  There are so many ways a little Pocket Beagle can get hurt or into troubleso you need to help him or her be safe in your absence.  In the kennel it's a great idea to have a favorite snuggly blanket and a toy or bone for him or her to entertain themselves while their humans are occupied.  This will help the transition of a puppy within your home tremendously.  I am not an advocate of any animals in cages or kennels all the time but for routine times you are gone this is a safe place for your Pocket Beagle to be.  In our home we have two wooden crates in our "entertainment room" where we spend a lot of family time and use them as "end tables".  Our dogs may chose to sleep in one for security or "alone time" as well as we utilize them for when we are gone so they stay safe and secure in our absence.

Digging is a controversial issue. It is a personal choice.

I do not allow my dogs to dig and if I catch them, they get reprimanded.  The thing is this, it's cute to let your dogs dig and have fun but when you are out and about at parks or friends houses, how are they to know the difference? I have friends who let their dogs dig in my yard and I do not care for it because I don't allow my dogs to do it. I do have a friend that has a built in sand-box and their pocket beagles know it's "OK" to play and dig in there - I think that is an excellent alternative. It is a clearly marked space that they have learned is an "OK" and safe place they are allowed to dig.  Your yard or around the grounds of your house or at a park just makes it so confusing for them in unfamiliar territory and not everyone likes a digger. I don't tolerate visiting pocket beagles digging in my yard!  So, that being said, it's a personal decision and it solely depends upon your living arrangement and what is acceptable.  Keep in mind that if you allow digging, if your living arrangement ever changes and you need to re-train your dogs, it may not be as easy as you think!

It is a hilarious source of entertainment though...

Thank you Jamie Sisk for this great video of Titan & Wallace! They DO have a yard that they are allowed to dig in within certain designated areas.
